About IPL

Iconic IPL Photofacial (also known as Intense Pulsed Light or Photorejuvenation) is hailed as the “Gold Standard” treatment for the reduction of pigmentation.

Age spots, sun damage, rosacea, broken capillaries, and freckles can create a dull and aged complexion. With IPL you can target this pigmentation to expose fresher, younger-looking skin.

Dr. Gunn has been performing IPL for over 15 years and firmly believes IPL should be a standard part of your skincare routine.  Age spots, brown spots, sunspots, and redness can make the skin look weathered. Erase the pigment of time on your face, neck, and chest and turn up the radiance. This treatment helps create and maintain a look to strive for.

How It Works

The light energy of the photorejuvenation treatment reduces the brown pigment and redness in the skin. This light is converted into heat energy, which helps to fade those specific problem areas resulting in a more even, brighter complexion with less discoloration. IPL Photofacial has been performed for over 20 years, and there are many studies in the medical literature demonstrating true, anti-aging benefits. Treatments can reduce rosacea symptoms and make the skin looks and feel healthier.

Individuals who have had IPL Photofacial treatments once or twice a year over a decade have healthier more radiant skin with less skin cancer than those who do not have these treatments. Furthermore, for people who already have sun damage – IPL is a great tool to “turn back time” and reverse the damage that’s already been done!  The Icon IPL is one of the most effective and comfortable treatments with high energies and sapphire cooling.

FAQ’s

I just want to get rid of this brown spot? Do I need a consultation first?
— Yes. You can have a cosmetic consultation first, however we also recommend a medical visit as well. Brown spots and red spots could be cancerous. Having a skin check by a dermatologist prior to this treatment is very important.
Will the treatment hurt and have downtime?
— The treatment feels like a hot rubber band hitting the skin for about 5 minutes. Most tolerate the treatment well. You can request numbing medicine prior to the treatment but all numbing decreases the effectiveness of reducing red spots in the skin. There is zero downtime. Most people can resume all normal activities immediately after the treatment including dinner with friends.
How long will the results last?
— The reduction of pigmentation in the skin is permanent. However it took many years to develop the pigment and it may take multiple treatments to get the results you desire. Once the desired results are achieved a good skincare routine can reduce the need for more treatments. If brown spots or pigment returns do to sun exposure or rosacea flares, we can treat the areas again.
