How it works

KYBELLA® is a patented formulation of deoxycholic acid manufactured by Allergan, the makers of BOTOX®. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies used to digest fat in our diets. The medicine destroys the fat cell membrane (picture a balloon popping) allowing the pockets of fat to be excreted out of the body without surgery.

 
 
 

What to Expect

Duration

40 minutes per area in the office. Treatment is 2-5 minutes

Recommended Sessions

1 – 3 treatments spaced 8 weeks apart

After Treatment Care

Stay well hydrated and avoid strenuous activity on the day of treatment.  Normal activity can resume the next day.

Risks:

Swelling and bruising are expected risks of this treatment and may last 2-6 weeks.

“How many Kybella treatments do I need to get rid of my double chin?”
— Results vary from person to person and multiple sessions are usually recommended to gradually reduce the unwanted chin fat. As the body expels the chin fat, slimming of the area occurs over the next 4-8 weeks. The amount of treatments necessary is dependent on the amount of volume to be treated and your body’s response to the medicine.
“Once the fat is gone will my skin be tight?”
— Many patients experience “bounce back” in their skin. This is the result of elastin levels being high enough to re-drape after the excess fat is dissolved however some patients decide to seek alternate tightening methods to stimulate collagen production and increase elastin levels like SkinPen.
“Is the treatment painful?”
— Comfort is of the upmost importance at Gunn Dermatology. We pre-numb and ice the area and use the smallest needles on the market to ensure you feel as little as possible. Most patients giggle through the appointment.
